wow – we really needed to learn spanish. i mean seriously, we knew absolutely nothing and flipping through our phrase books just to say “pass me the check” was getting complicated.  most people really don’t know too much English and we realized quickly that lessons were the way to go if we were going to get to know any portenos (or locals).

3 hours a day for lessons, and an hour commute each way to get to the city center from palermo, and much of our day is filled with learning spanish.  not necessarily a bad thing though as it gives us some routine and a reason to re-visit the city center on a regular basis.

anyway, one week into it and so far so good.  although to be honest, the spanish seems to flow a lot better after a few drinks.  of course, maybe its the drinks that make me think that in the first place.
